The Morris-Hunters

Dr Bel has assisted us several times when it was time to say goodbye to a beloved furry family member.

We were so grateful to be in familiar surroundings and assisted through the process with such assuredness and consideration.

It's so reassuring to know that we have a vet who we can rely on at a difficult time and I have such comfort in having Dr Bel to reach out to.

We had Dr Belinda from Empethy Vet to help our cat Sonic pass. We were so grateful for her kindness and compassion and it was so much nicer for Sonic doing it at home. He was always so scared in vet clinics so letting him pass peacefully at home was a much better experience for everyone. I was grateful for her explanation of what to expect beforehand, she took her time and gave us time to say goodbye. Also her physical exam beforehand reassured us that we were definitely making the right decision. As much as no-one wants to have to make the decision, when it is time, I can highly recommend Empethy Vet. Dr Belinda was wonderful at a very difficult time.

Dr Belinda x We can not express in words the incredibly professional and empathetic service and experience you provided to our family and our Charli this afternoon xx Thankyou for also being so kind to Amelia as she initially struggled to accept and was reluctant to be involved. Your detailed explanation of what to expect/ normal and what also could happen had us beautifully prepared for Charli's death... and it was lovely to just watch her gently leave in her own familiar environment with no stress. We will be forever grateful to you. Also we have all said how generous with your time you were and also the paw prints. THANKYOU AGAIN XX

Our Amazing vet Bel has been our Fur Babies vet for many years, we starting taking our Bailey, Pierre and Riccardo to her when she had  her Hospital…. We always found her to be a Woman of immense Integrity, Compassion, knowledge, Kindness and being so Empathetic , not only with our Fur babies but always so understanding our sadness and concerns, especially in making the heartbreaking decision to let our babies cross the Rainbow bridge, all our boys have absolutely adored her. Our 3 boys  passed over in a loving environment at home with us and Bel gently guiding us through the tears & the process, until the time was right for us to finally let go❤️💔 We now have 2 more boys, Casper & Bayles, Dogs & 2 Cats Frankie & Moet and when their time comes we will again  ask for Bel ❤️

We would highly recommend Bel in whatever endeavours she chooses. Her Love & Respect for all Animals is beyond reproach including us humans….

Luka, Paddy and Peppa

Sadly, over the last couple of years I have had to make the heartbreaking decision to put three of my best friends & protectors to sleep, in order to relieve their suffering. This was not done lightly, only when all medications and other options ran out.

Dr Bel gave Luka, Paddy and Peppa the most peaceful passing anyone could ask for.

Dr Bel was very calm, professional & deeply caring as they slipped away, while I cuddled patted & talked to them. Dr Bel took her time,, nothing was rushed or too much trouble, just vary peaceful & serene. On each occasion she made sure Luka, Paddy & Peppa were not stressed in any way. For this I was & still am very grateful for her kindness and compassion to both my dogs & myself.

She gave me the strength "to do what had to be done"

I highly recommend Dr Bel if you have to make this sad decision :(

At some of the hardest times in our life, when we needed someone we trust, Dr Belinda has been there. She has looked after our fur babies for many years, and when the time came, I knew she would be there for us again. She was able to come to our home, so our Spike and Daisy could both be sent to the rainbow bridge from the comfort of their home. Her empathy and compassion was second to none. I truly appreciate Dr Bel, making such a stressful sad time, easier.

Your time with us was amazing, calming, and she was ready to go

Time enough to say goodbye to my sookilala.

Thanks again for all your help

We couldn’t have been more blessed than to have Bel (Dr B 😉) come to our home to ease our beautiful 🐾Zoomy-Zemira’s 🐾 journey over the rainbow bridge.

From the beginning when Zemira jumped out of her bed to greet Bel at the door, the whole experience was peaceful, respectful and just right.

Bel took the time it takes.

To thoroughly explain the whole process and all that may be involved and just honour the space where family can participate in saying farewell to their beloved pet.

No rushing, no pressure, this would have to be the most peaceful euthanasia I have witnessed.

Bel’s care and compassion made this sad and challenging decision much easier to bear and we couldn’t have asked for a better sending off of our special “4-legs”.

My family has had to say goodbye to several of our beloved pets, and each time has been incredibly difficult. But thanks to Dr. Bel those final moments were filled with peace, dignity, and compassion. She took the time to explain each step of the process clearly and simply, which helped us feel comforted during such an emotional time. Her knowledge, calm presence and empathy made all the difference, allowing our pets to pass in the comfort of their home, surrounded by love. We’re so grateful for the gentle, respectful care she has given to both our pets and our family over the many years.

I used Belinda to put my beautiful old red cloud down when it was needed. I was recommended her by a friend.

She was so patient and empathetic but ultra professional. She explained everything including cremation options. Would highly recommend her services.

Thank you so very much. You were sooo very good with us all and thank you for helping us letting Goldie go as peacefully as she did. I honestly can’t tell you how very grateful I am. I loved that fiesty little muffin soo much and have been dreading this day for so many reasons but you helped me let her go peacefully, calmly and without any distress. For a little girl who’s pride and independence were how she presented, she would have been grateful, she wouldn’t have been demonstrative but she would have told you quietly, you did a good job! 🤭 🫶🏼xx

I found belinda over 7 years ago.

Belinda has helped me with my 3 legged dog, and also helping with unfortunately putting to sleep 2 very old cat's,

The one thing I will and can say, from experience, is that Belinda will not over charge, will always try and give the animal and owner peace of mind, and also helps with cremation, Belinda also understands that an animal is not just a pet but apart of the family

About Us

Dr Belinda (Dr Bel or Dr B) graduated from Murdoch University at the end of 1990 and moved to the UK immediately to take up a position in a ten vet VERY mixed practice in scenic South Yorkshire. This was followed by a wonderful period in mixed practice in Dover, Kent, before spending 8months locumming and travelling, with her dogs Pogo and Jake, prior to her fathers sudden death, and her urgent return home.

After spending a four month locum in Singapore, as the overnight vet in a very busy small animal practice, she (and the dogs) returned to Perth. Keen to put down some roots for a while, Belinda joined the crew at Malibu Vet and, under the mentorship of Dr Peter Adamson, became part of a terrific team. This professional association and the friendships she made continue to this day.

In 1999 Belinda became Director: Continuing Veterinary Education at Murdoch University, a position that was further expanded to include the Directorship of the Veterinary Trust and Veterinary Alumni. Amongst other responsibilities, Belinda planned the annual calendars, coordinated international speakers, and promoted the local courses.

In 2003 she joined the team at Murdoch's Pet Emergency Centre (MPEC) where she stayed, with short breaks, until 2015. During 2004 and 2005 Belinda trained for, and completed two Ironman Triathlons, an experience she loved, does not regret, but which left her body somewhat broken, with injuries that slow her down to this day.

From 2005 - 2008 Belinda combined her emergency work at MPEC with the development and running of a small private consultancy, focusing on dedicated home euthanasia for pets, and owner bereavement support. This service was called Epitaph, and was the first euthanasia-only mobile practice in Perth, and possibly Australia, at the time. Belinda faced some raised eyebrows from colleagues who didn't feel there was such a need, but they were wrong, her clients were universally grateful, and now there are multiple similar services operating in Australia and throughout the world.

During this time Belinda also ran seminars for Vets, Vet students and vet nursing students in the subjects of pet loss related grief, and how to make euthanasia easier, emotionally, for everyone involved.

Unfortunately,  unable to balance the business with mothering her new son, she closed Epitaph formally in 2009.

End-of-life issues remained a passion for Belinda- smoothing the passage from life to death for our pets, and helping their owners at the same time is not something you easily walk away from.

Between 2016 and 2019 Belinda was the owner of a mixed practice south of the Perth metropolitan area. This time of life became fraught with financial stress, and ultimate business loss and great sorrow. The resulting several years were spent in introspection, metaphorical wound licking, and the journey towards rediscovery of what is the most important thing to her professionally…end-of-life care of pets, and support of their life-guardians.

And so, on the first day of winter in 2022 Epitaph was re-born as Empethy Vet.
